The screening will showcase the historic documentary feature about the Mexican Revolution. The film is composed of Salvador Toscano’s archival film material, edited into a narrative by his daughter Carmen Toscano.

The event will feature the presence of Veronica Zarate Toscano, grand-daugther of filmmaker Salvador Toscano and current director of the Fundación Toscano, and the presence of histoiran Manuel Marques Sterling, grandson of the former Ambassador of Cuba in Mexico during the revolutionary period.

Declared National Monument in 1962, Memories of a Mexican (1950) was edited with footage shot by Salvador Toscano Barragán (1872-1947), pioneer of Mexican cinema, who filmed moving images of Porfirio Díaz, Francisco I. Madero, Pancho Villa, Venustiano Carranza, Emiliano Zapata and Álvaro Obregón, among others. The film presents historic moments that includes footage from the Celebration of the Mexican Independe (1908), The Celebration of the Centenary (1910), The ten tragic days (1913) and the Invasion of Veracruz (1914).

Following the passing of her father Salvador in 1947, writer Carmen Toscano (1910-1988), produced, directed and edited Memories of a Mexican (1950). Her work included the organization and selection of over fifty thousand feet of footage that documented important events in the history of Mexico since 1897 until 1929.
